It was this time last year that IU Health cared for its first COVID-19 patient. It’s been a difficult and challenging year. But a year later, we are seeing promising signs of the COVID-19 pandemic slowing. Across the state, nearly 800,000 Hoosiers are fully vaccinated.
We must not let our guard down. Stopping a pandemic requires using all the tools we have available. The combination of getting vaccinated and following the CDC’s recommendations to protect yourself and others will offer the best protection from COVID-19.
We now have 3 vaccines approved by the FDA for emergency use—most recently a single-dose vaccine from Johnson & Johnson. All 3 COVID-19 vaccines are highly effective, safe with minimal side effects and will be provided at no cost to you.
Lana Dbeibo, MD, medical director of Infection Prevention at IU Health Methodist Hospital, recently answered questions about the different vaccines. Watch in this 4-minute video why she is confident in the safety and effectiveness of each of the vaccines. “The best vaccine is the one you can get today,” Dbeibo said.
When will I be able to get a vaccine?
Currently, Indiana residents who are 50 and older, educators and school staff and those with certain medical conditions are eligible (for full details on who is eligible, visit ourshot.in.gov).
